Wausau officials have declared a snow emergency in advance of a storm that is predicted to dump up to seven inches of snow in the area.
The snow emergency is in place from 11 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a city news release.
During a snow emergency, drivers who park on city streets during a snow emergency are subject to a $100 fine. The restrictions are put in place to allow plows and rescue crews access to city streets during a significant snow event.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Marathon County effective from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Weather officials are predicting between 5 and 7 inches of snow with gusty winds that could result in drifting and reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time while traveling, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
