WAUSAU– The Chippewa Falls boys hockey team was no match for Wausau West as the Warriors rolled to a 4-1 victory on Tuesday evening.

Brady Cleveland found the back of the net twice for West, while Carson Marquardt scored a goal and also recorded an assist.

It was a tight contest through two periods.

West’s first goal was scored by Cleveland, followed by a second period goal by Connor Wendell to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

West wrapped it up in the third period with Cleveland’s second goal in addition to a lamp lighter by Marquardt.

Boys Basketball

GRESHAM– Wisconsin Valley Lutheran went into halftime of their contest against Gresham down one point at 24-23, but stormed back in the second half to close out the game with a 54-49 CWC North victory.

Leading the charge for WVL was Christian Johnson with 18 points.  Evan Graff and Cole Graff each hit for 13 points.

Meanwhile, Gresham was led by Lukas Pecore with 23 points.  Will Jensen added 11 points.

Greshman hit 11 three pointers, but it was WVL’s ability to hit free throws down the stretch that made the difference.

The Wolves converted 20 of 25 free throws, including five straight to end the game.

WESTON– Everest picked up a win in convincing fashion over Shawano 69-48.

The Evergreens were led by Bryan Halambeck, Alec Stuedeman and Keaton Edwards, each of whom tickled the nets for 15 points.

Logan Ebersold added 14 points for Everest.

The Evergreens are now 8-2 overall this season.

Girls Basketball

STRATFORD– The Newman Cardinals held Stratford to just six first half points as they rolled to a 32-22 win.

Jadelyn Ganski netted 10 points for Newman, while Stratford was paced by Paige Kolbeck and Breanna Ackley, each of whom scored six points.

Newman improves to 11-3 overall and 9-1 in the Marawood South, while Stratford falls to 4-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

WAUSAU– The Warriors ran into a buzz saw and suffered a tough non-conference loss at the hands of the Cardinals.

Chippewa Falls got 33 points from Aaliyah McMillan, 11 from Alexis Zenner and 10 from Caelan Givens.

West was led by Allie Hanke with 14 points.  Anna Cunningham added 11 and Grace Michalske chipped in 10.

Falls took a commanding 48-23 lead at halftime and never looked back.

EAGLE RIVER– The Evergreens suffered a tough loss to Northland Pines to fall to 9-5-1 overall this season.

Everest will look to turn things around as they host Sun Prairie on Friday, January 24.
