Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?
I chose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau because it was close to home. It made the transition from high school to college easier since I was able to commute from home. The campus was very welcoming for me, especially coming in at the start of the spring semester instead of the beginning of the year.
What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?
I was surprised how involved the professors are willing to be in a student’s college life. They want every student to be successful and go out of their way to help.
How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Wausau faculty/staff help?
Ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in education. I come from a large family with many nieces and nephews and always had the desire to help others learn. Fortunately, I was able to take education classes during my first semester, and I’m already working with kids during my second semester. This experience reassured me that I made the right choice to double major in education and to start this journey at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau.
Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?
Maxine Beam, the librarian. She goes out of her way to get to know students and is always there when you need some help. She makes the library a welcoming environment.
In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?
I take classes at Fusion Dance in Tomahawk, and I have a work-study job in the campus library.
What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?
I plan to transfer to the main campus in Stevens Point to graduate with a double major in elementary and special education. I’d like to teach in the Tomahawk or Wausau area.
To make the most of their college experience, what advice would you have for incoming students? Never be afraid to ask for help. There is always a professor or staff member willing to be there for you.
