WAUAU – The Badger State Games’ Winter Games will celebrate 31 years hosting Olympic-style sporting events in Wisconsin this weekend. Athletes of all ages and abilities who medal with a gold, silver or bronze are then eligible to compete in the State Games of America in Lynchburg, Virginia. Here’s what’s coming up this weekend.

Nordic Skiing 

About 400 Nordic skiers will compete, including youth and high school teams, adults and adaptive divisions. Races will include freestyle and classic formats and distances will range from 1-2k (age 9 and younger) up to 43k (age 18 and older). Spectators are encouraged to cheer on their teams. When: Races run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 25

Where: Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area, 8704 Redbud Road, Rib Mountain

Martial Arts

About 100 martial artists will compete in form, weapons, board breaking, speed breaking Olympic sparring and more. Age brackets include kids (4-11 years old), juniors (12-17 years old), seniors (18-32 years old), and ultras (33 years old). On-site registration is available.
