St. Michael’s Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Applicants are awarded one scholarship, but are allowed to apply for more than one.

Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship
The Richard A. Eckberg Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or a surrounding county) who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a healthcare field.
Established in 1998 by his family, this scholarship recognizes Dr. Richard Eckberg, a surgeon who served at St. Michael’s Hospital for 22 years.
Ascension St. Michael’s Medical Staff Scholarship
The recipient of the Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship will be chosen based on scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, volunteer service, strong career motivation and personal recommendations. Financial need and children of Ascension Medical Group and Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital associates will be given strong consideration.
The scholarship, established in 2009 by the Medical Staff at Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, awards one $1,000 post-secondary education scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year to a student living in Portage County (or a surrounding county) who will be attending an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program in a healthcare field.
Janice and Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship
The Janice and Robert Weaver Memorial Scholarship will award one $1,000 education scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year to an associate of Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital or Ascension Medical Group who will be pursuing a degree in a healthcare field from an accredited technical, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral program.
In 2008, this scholarship was established by Dr. Robert Weaver’s family, created to honor Weaver’s commitment to higher education, and to call out the compassionate and quality care that was provided to him during his life.
