Aspirus Stevens Point Campus will open an eight-bed medical/surgical inpatient unit and expand its surgical services, Aspirus announced this week.

Opening Feb. 19, the $3 million, 6,000-square-foot expansion will add overnight care for medical and surgical patients, including emergency patients who need to stay for observation. The ability to care for patients overnight will also enable Aspirus to offer surgeries that it previously could not accommodate.

“We are very excited to announce this expansion and our continued investment in the Stevens Point community,” said Robert Smith, vice president of Aspirus Stevens Point Campus, in a news release. “Aspirus continues to see an increase in patient demand and this expansion allows us to respond to this growth and fulfill our mission to improve the health of our communities.”

The 6,000-square-foot expansion brings ASPC to a total of 81,000 square feet.

ASPC employs 90 people and expects to add another 18 jobs, including three new hospitalist advanced practice clinicians, once the new expansion is complete and fully occupied.

Public tours

Everyone is invited to tour the new inpatient unit from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 15. The campus is at 5409 Vern Holmes Drive in Stevens Point. Tour guests are asked to enter through the main entrance.
