Operating while intoxicated and battery by a prisoner in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department log for the week ending Feb. 2.

A 21-year-old Merrill man was cited after a traffic stop Sunday morning in the town of Merrill. A deputy observed the man’s vehicle traveling at 20 mph over the speed limit as it traveled on Hillside Drive at 12:40 a.m. The driver was cited for speeding and a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A 29-year-old Merrill man, an inmate in the Lincoln County Jail, will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office on a felony charge of battery by prisoner. A corrections officer reported Sunday morning that the inmate struck him in the head. On Friday the same inmate was referred on a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property after he punched a video visitation monitor causing damage.

Six people reported striking deer last week. On Sunday, an eagle was found near the roadway at Highway 17 and Highway J in Bloomville. The bird appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was suffering from a broken wing. A deputy assisted, the bird was collected and turned over to representatives from Wild Instinct’s wildlife rehab in Rhinelander.
