WAUSAU – The Badger State Games’ Winter Games will host fat tire bike racing, snowshoeing, BMX racing and ski jumping this weekend in various communities across the state. Those who medal with a gold, silver or bronze are then eligible to compete in the State Games of America in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Here’s what’s coming up this weekend.

Fat Tire Bike Racing

Winter fat-tire enthusiasts gather at Prairie Dells/Underdown in Gleason for 25 miles of fat bike fun. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers for the 10-mile lap, 15-mile lap and 25-mile lap. On-site registration is available. Details: Racing begins at 10 a.m.

Snowshoe Race Series

This is race No. 2 in the Snowshoe Racing Trifecta for the 2020 BSG Winter Games and will be at Prairie Dells/Underdown in Gleason. The first race was held in Rhinelander on Jan. 11 and the final will be in Marshfield on Feb. 15. Racers of all ages will compete in a 5k, 10k, or Kids’ 400 Meter race. 12:30 p.m. – Free Youth 400-Meter Race

BMX Indoor Race Series

The 2020 BSG Winter Games kicks-off its Winter BMX Series in Elkhorn. There are as many as 24 possible divisions to compete in for this series. Additional sites will include Oshkosh, Wisconsin Rapids, DeForest, Rhinelander and Fond Du Lac. Remaining dates are to be determined. Registration is available on-site. Where: Walworth County BMX, 411 E. Court St., Elkhorn

Details: Racing begins around noon

Ski Jumping

This year marks the 88th year of the annual Ski Jumping Tournament. In those years, we have had four competitive jumpers go on to become Olympic athletes. You never know when you’ll be watching the next U.S. Olympic ski jumper! Events will include 5M, 10M, 22M, 55M, and a Nordic Combined Cross Country Ski Race.
