WAUSAU – The top-ranked Central Wisconsin girls hockey team wound up on the wrong end of an upset Saturday.
The No. 5 ranked Madison Area Lynx came into hostile territory and handed the Storm a 4-2 setback in nonconference action at Marathon Park behind a pair of goals from Sydney Raaths.
The loss leaves Central Wisconsin at 16-3-2 heading into a showdown with the second-ranked Eau Claire Area Stars at Hobbs Ice Arena on Monday.
The Lynx improve to 18-3-0 overall.
Madison Area jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on the strength of the 23rd and 24th goals of the season from Raaths.
The Lymnx lead would grow to 3-0 in the second period when Rachel Mirwald found the back of the net.
Instead of folding, Central Wisconsin mounted a comeback.
Macy Stepan and Lauren Ellis struck for goals in a span of 1:08 midway through the second period to trim the deficit to 3-2. Stepan’s goal came on the power play. Hannah Bauman assisted on the second goal.
Any dream of a complete comeback by the Storm ended early in the final period when Madison Area picked up a power-play goal to increase their lead to 4-2.
Central Wisconsin was unable to break through the Lynx defense the rest of the way.

Onalaska 9, D.C. Everest 2
LA CROSSE – The Evergreens hung tough early in the nonconference matchup, but there were unable to handle the ensuing onslaught by the Hilltoppers at the Omni Center.
The game was tied 2-2 before Onalaska scored seven unanswered goals to win going away.
DCE now stands at 12-8-2 for the season.
