A 6-year-old kindergarten student is dead and a sibling is injured after being struck by a vehicle while waiting to board a school bus Monday near Plainfield, officials said.

According to a WBAY report, the children were about to board a school bus on Hwy. 73 when they were struck by a vehicle attempting to pass the bus. The bus was stopped with lights flashing and the striking vehicle was traveling in the same direction as the bus when the crash happened, the TV station reports.

The victims were students at the Tri-County Area School District, officials said.

A portion of Hwy. 73 remained closed as of 10 a.m. Monday.

No additional information, including the current condition of the injured sibling, was immediately released.
