A winter storm that dumped about 6 inches of snow in the Wausau area Sunday caused dozens of crashes throughout the region, according to law enforcement.

At least two semi tractor trailers jacknifed on Hwy. 51 Sunday north of Merrill, where the highway was closed for two hours on Sunday. Traffic was rerouted through the city of Merrill.

In Lincoln County, more than 20 traffic-related incidents were reported in a four-hour time frame. Many incidents involved vehicles leaving the roadway and rolling over. No major incidents were reported.

Near Wausau, a portion of southbound Hwy. 51 was reduced to a single lane for several hours on Sunday after a series of crashes. Shortly afterward, another crash snarled traffic in the northbound lanes near Hwy. K north of Wausau.

Overnight, a semi trailer disconnected from a semi, forcing the Hwy. 29 westbound on-ramp from Hwy. 107 to close for about two hours. The ramp reopened at about 6 a.m. Monday.
