The river crossing in Marathon City near intersection 355 is closed effective immediately due to open water, according to the Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry motorized recreation coordinator.

The crossing has been flagged and marked as closed. Riders are asked to be responsible and respect the trail closed status.

The remainder of the trail will remain open, allowing access to local businesses near the trail, officials said.

Marathon County Snowmobile Clubs have been grooming trails with the recent 4-6” of fresh snow, which have made for some good riding conditions. The are working to keep the trails in as good condition as possible, even in challenging weather conditions.

“Please respect the landowners who have allowed our trails through their property and respect the work the clubs have done by staying on the trail,” coordinator Mitchell Fox wrote, in a Thursday news release.

ATVs are not allowed on the trails when the air temperature is above 28 degrees.
