WAUSAU – The Wausau River District has hired Leah Van De Loo as its assistant director, the organization announced this week. Van De Loo begins her new position on Feb. 24.

Leah Van De Loo

Van De Loo is a 2018 graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with a bachelor’s degree in cultural geography, with a minor in peace and justice studies. Her past work experience includes being a justice system advocate at The Women’s Community. Most recently, she was a program manager at Rasmussen College.

Van De Loo’s hire brings the Wausau River District back up to two year-round staff members.

“Over the last five years, the organization has been growing at an unexpected rate, which makes it necessary to have two year-round staff,” Blake Opal-Wahoske, the organization’s executive director, said in a news release. “Leah is an ideal hire for the position because of her background in advocacy and community engagement, as well as her passion for the Wausau community.”
