A D.C. Everest high school teacher recorded more than 100 so-called “upskirt” videos of students over the course of about five years, according to an Everest Metro Police Department news release issued Friday.
Travis Greil, 38, faces potential felony charges of viewing, recording or broadcasting an individual’s genitalia, according to Friday’s jail intake report. During a probable cause hearing Friday, Circuit Judge Mike Moran ordered Greil held on a $100,000 bond with the first $20,000 to be paid in cash.
He is free after posting the cash portion of his bond.
Greil, who taught global studies, human geography and AP classes at D.C. Everest High School, is the subject of an ongoing investigation that began Wed., Feb. 12, according to Everest Metro Chief Clay Schulz.
Police were notified Wednesday that Greil had allegedly used an electronic device in the school to record underneath the clothing of a student without the student’s consent. During the investigation, police seized a device that contained multiple videos that captured recordings underneath the clothing of numerous girls at the school, an act commonly referred to as “upskirting.”
Police say Greil allegedly admitted to capturing the videos.
Initial reports suggest videos were captured over the course of about five years. More than 100 videos have so far been recovered so far, prosecutors said, with a continuing investigation underway.
Police also searched Greil’s Wausau home and investigators are processing evidence found there, Schulz’s release stated.
During Greil’s court appearance Friday, Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon said investigators are working to identify the victims who appear in the videos.

On Thursday, D.C. Everest officials sent a letter to parents alerting them of allegations against a teacher, but the letter did not specify which teacher was under investigation.
“Upon receiving this notification, the district and law enforcement immediately took appropriate actions to ensure the safety of students and staff, including locking all of the individual’s electronic equipment, disabling district key card access and placing the individual on leave including a directive to remain off district property,” the letter states.
Greil is expected in court Feb. 28, when official charges are expected to be filed against him.
