MARSHFIELD – With a Wisconsin Valley Conference championship out of reach, the Wausau West girls basketball team had a chance to play spoiler Friday night.

The Warriors had a chance to throw a wrench in Marshfield’s plans for the conference championship by knocking off the Tigers.

In the end, West was unable to pull off the upset on the road as Marshfield made just enough plays down the stretch to pull out a dramatic 52-50 victory.

Marshfield concludes the conference season at 11-1.

The Warriors will get another crack at impacting the WVC championship race Thursday when they host SPASH to close out the conference season.

SPASH can earn a share of the Valley title with a win. If West can pick up the victory, Marshfield would win the conference championship outright.

STEVENS POINT – The Panthers took care of business and kept their hopes of a Valley title alive by dispatching the Lumberjacks.

East had no answers for Division I Valparaiso recruit Leah Earnest, who poured in 37 points. Emma Jossie contributed 19 for SPASH.

Abby Thompson paced the Lumberjacks with 14 points and Kit Kronberger helped out with 13.

East will look to avoid a winless conference season when it hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, Feb. 20.
