Wausau School District reading specialist Amy McGovern has been named Illuminator of the Year – Educator for her contributions in the district, Wausau School District announced this week.

The honor, bestowed by leading K-12 student achievement solution Illuminate Education, is awarded to a select group of educators and administrators committed to increasing the power of teaching and the delight of learning.

McGovern has been recognized for her skill and leadership around using data to support students and teachers, according to Wausau School District. In her role, she helps teachers implement the District’s PK-12 literacy curriculum, provides coaching and professional learning and actively supports professional learning communities. Her work enables teachers across the district to meaningfully assess their students’ knowledge and needs, provide timely interventions and monitor student growth.

McGovern was one of only two 2020 Illuminators of the Year and the only awardee to receive the Educator Award. Both honorees were recognized at the Illuminate Education User Conference in Anaheim, California, on Jan. 31.

“It’s truly an extra special honor to be nominated by my colleagues for this award,” McGovern said in the news release. “I was so surprised to hear my name called out at the conference! To be recognized for my contribution to our collective effort around supporting the teachers and students of Wausau School District feels both remarkable and humbling.”
