By Shereen Siewert

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Wausau and Marathon County until 3 a.m. Tuesday as a winter storm edges its way into the region.

Snow will move into central and north central Wisconsin during the late afternoon and evening hours. Though the heaviest snow will be south and east of Wausau, up to 4 inches is expected in the area overnight.

The snow will end as flurries or transition into light freezing drizzle late Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay. Roads and sidewalks will become slippery as the snow arrives and pavement temperatures fall below freezing.

Drivers are urged to travel with caution, as the hazardous conditions could impact the evening and morning commute
