WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Orion Boe and Gabe Carter can call themselves sectional wrestling champions.

Now the D.C. Everest duo will join three teammates in a bid to call themselves state champions when the Division 1 Individual Tournament concludes Feb. 29.

The top two finishers in each weight division at each Division I sectional held Saturday advanced to the WIAA state meet at the Kohl Center in Madison set for Feb. 27-29.

Also qualifying for the state meet for the Evergreens by virtue of runner-up results at their respective weight classes were Blake Heal (24-12) at 126 pounds, Demetrio Covarrubias (34-10) at 138 and Freddy Lehrke (21-6) at 152.

Boe (43-1) won all three of his matches at 220 pounds via pins and needed just 41 seconds to flatten Ben Sinclair of Rhinelander in the title match Saturday.

Hias first two sectional matches against Luke Fox of New Richmond and SPASH’s Ben Raczek lasted a combined 1:53 to reach the championship match.

Carter (39-1) grabbed the 170-pound sectional title with a 6-4 decision over Hudson’s Jacob Hansen in the championship match.

He opened the day recording a fall over Zach Crotty of Eau Claire Memorial in 3:14. In the semifinals, Carter pulled out a 2-0 win against River Falls’ Garrett Borth.

Gabriel Ramos (32-10) will be the lone representative for Wausau West after earning a runner-up finish at 132 after dropping a 9-2 decision to Brett Franklin of Marshfield in the finals.
