A former Weston man convicted of stealing from a Wausau bowling alley is facing new theft accusations, this time at a Columbus bowling alley, according to a WiscNews report.
Adam J. Resop, 30, was convicted in September 2018 in Marathon County Circuit Court on charges of theft in a business setting and theft of movable property. As part of a plea agreement, Resop was given a withheld sentence for two years probation and was ordered to pay $1,463 in restitution to Day’s Bowl-A-Dome in Wausau, where he was an employee at the time the thefts occurred.
Resop is now accused of stealing more than $6,000 from Fast Lanes Bowling in Columbus, Wis., where he was employed as a manager. Police say Resop stole the money to fund his gambling addiction.
Court records show Resop was on probation at the time the new charges were filed. A probation revocation order and arrest warrant were filed Feb. 10 in Marathon County Circuit Court, where he will likely face additional penalties on the previous charges due to the terms of his sentencing agreement.
He is currently in custody in the Marathon County Jail.
The most recent charges were filed after the owner of Fast Lanes discovered money was missing from a bowling league. According to the WiscNews report, Resop is accused of stealing the league’s sanction fees and prizes collected from 40 league members who competed weekly.
Resop allegedly collected money for the first 17 weeks of bowling season, beginning in August, until the business became aware of the thefts and fired Resop in mid-December. Police say he would have collected $6,800 in prize money during the 17-week span, money he allegedly spent on gambling.
Future court dates have not yet been set.
