A Stevens Point man has been arrested in connection with the August death of a 25-year-old Rhinelander woman, according to an Oneida County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Shauna M. Sarkauskas, of Rhinelander, was found dead Aug. 27 at a town of Newbold residence. Police say she died of an apparent overdose, though final toxicology reports are pending.

Dalton U. Kampf, 23, was arrested Tuesday morning in Stevens Point as a result of the ongoing investigation into Sarkauskaus’ death and faces preliminary charges of first degree reckless homicide by manufacture, distribution or delivery of a controlled substance, Oneida County Sheriff’s Capt. Tyler Young said.

Kampf is also jailed on a probation hold.

Police have offered few details into Sarkauskaus’ death, but say their investigation is ongoing.

Online court records show Kampf, formerly of Rhinelander, has past convictions for drug and firearms charges. He was most recently convicted in September of obstruction and bail jumping charges and was on probation at the time of his arrest. He changed his address to a Stevens Point location in November.

Official charges are expected to be filed against Kampf this week.
