A 29-year-old Wausau man already facing sex-related charges is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young boy over the course of at least four years, beginning when the alleged victim was a preteen.
Caleb P. Mayer appeared in Marathon County Circuit Court on Wednesday, March 4, where he faces charges of repeated sexual assault of a child, with at least three violations of first degree sexual assault.
During Mayer’s initial appearance, Circuit Judge Greg Huber ordered Mayer held on a $20,000 cash bond and further ordered him to have no contact with anyone younger than 18, including the alleged victim in the case.
Court records show Mayer has two additional open cases in Marathon County, the first of which involves allegations of sending sexually explicit messages to a 16-year-old coworker. That case was filed Jan. 10.
Then on Jan. 21, prosecutors filed misdemeanor theft charges against Mayer. Those charges stem from allegations he stole cash from a safe at a fast food restaurant where he was employed, according to court filings.
A preliminary hearing on the assault charge is set for March 11.
