The Hmong American Center is once again seeking nominations for the annual Stanley F. Staples, Jr. Person of the Year Award.

The award is given annually in recognition of contributions to the advancement of Hmong people in Marathon County, particularly in education.

Hmong families first arrived in Marathon County in 1978. In the early years, Staples and the Wausau Community Foundation provided funding, contacts, political support, encouragement and inspiration to the Hmong. When many thought differently, Staples understood that the presence of Hmong people in Marathon County would soon be a source of strength and that Hmong people have as much to teach us as they do to learn.

The deadline for nomination submissions is March 30. The winner will be announced at the Hmong American Center’s Dream Big: 2056 event on April 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2101 N. Mountain Road, Rib Mountain.
