Wausau public and private schools will remain open through March 18, closing at the end of the school day on Wednesday, according to an email from the district.
Gov. Tony Evers last week issued an executive order mandating the closure of all Wisconsin schools effective after the school day ends March 18 and continuing through Sunday, April 5.
Wausau school officials expect to reopen schools on Monday, April 6, unless further closures are mandated.
Virtual learning is scheduled for Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, then resuming on Monday, March 30 following spring break.
Charter is offering free Spectrum broadband and wifi access for 60 days to households with K-12 students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription, school officials said. The offer begins Monday, March 16 and installation will be waived for new student households. To enroll, parents should call 844-488-8395.
Charter officials say they will open wifi hotspots across its footprint for public use.
Families seeking extra support from a pupil services professional during the mandated school closure should contact their social worker or school counselor by email, officials said. Pupil services staff will check email on a regular basis.
The Wausau School District’s nutrition services team, along with community partners, is making plans to provide meal opportunities during the closure. Those plans are expected to be announced in the coming days.
