A 37-year-old Weston man who secretly filmed a 16-year-old girl and watched the films for his own sexual gratification was sentenced Tuesday in Marathon County Circuit Court and will spend seven years in prison.

Steven Miller was charged April 4 in Marathon County Circuit Court with possession of child pornography, child sexual exploitation, two counts of invasion of privacy using surveillance device with a victim younger than 18, three counts of capturing an intimate representation.

As part of a plea agreement, Miller was ultimately convicted of possessing child pornography and capturing an intimate representation, while additional charges were dismissed but were considered at his sentencing this week.

Circuit Judge LaMont Jacobson on Tuesday sentenced Miller to seven years initial confinement followed by 10 years extended supervision. Miller is also ordered to have no contact with minors, register as a sex offender, and refrain from possessing items capable of making a video recording. Jacobson also ordered Miller to pay $2,646.57 in restitution.

Police say Miller placed cameras in the bedroom and bathroom of the girl, who is the daughter of Miller’s then-girlfriend. Investigators seized flash drives and SD cards containing dozens of images of the girl undressing, using the bathroom and showering, according to court documents.

Miller’s face is allegedly seen in at least one of the videos, an image police say was captured while he was placing the device.

When questioned, Miller ultimately told investigators he watched the videos for sexual purposes, according to court documents.

On Monday, Nov. 18, Circuit Judge LaMont Jacobson ordered a presentencing investigation be completed before determining sentence at a later date.

Miller was granted 340 days credit for time served awaiting trial.
