A 29-year-old Wausau man is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a preteen boy, abuse that allegedly happened regularly over a five-year span.

Caleb Mayer faces a single felony charge of repeated sexual assault of the same child, with at least three violations of first degree assault. The charges were filed March 4 in Marathon County Circuit Court.

The alleged assaults began in February 2009, when the victim was 11 until 2014, when the boy matured, according to court documents.

Police learned of the allegations while investigating a separate incident.

Mayer, who faces up to 60 years in the Wisconsin Prison System, is free after posting a $20,000 cash bond on March 17.  A review hearing is set for March 31.
