New data released Saturday shows 989 people in Wisconsin have tested positive for COVID-19, while 16 people have died including one in Waupaca County.
The number is a sharp rise from the 281 confirmed cases just one week ago.
Waupaca County reported its first confirmed case on Wednesday and said the patient was self-quarantined. The patient, whose age and gender have not been released, later died, according to a news release issued Saturday by Public Health Officer, Jed Wohlt.
State health officials say 15,232 tests have come back negative, though the ratio of positive to negative tests is expected to shift significantly in the coming week.
Marathon County remains at a single positive case, though it is unclear how many tests are pending or how many Marathon County tests have come back negative.
DHS officials say the ages of people who have tested positive so far are all across the board, but the largest percentage, 38 percent, are between the ages of 50 and 69.
Cases reported on Saturday reflect tests results recorded by 9 p.m. on Saturday. New data is expected to be released on Sunday afternoon.
