WAUSAU —United Way of Marathon County, Hsu Growing and Fork Farms encourage people to grow plants for community gardens. This is a safe and solo volunteer option in the time of social distancing. Simple seedlings can be started in your home with most supplies in your own kitchen or garage.

If you need seeds mailed to your home, contact United Way at https://www.secure.unitedwaymc.org/comm/SurveyNE.jsp?SurveyKeyHex=41566D6724464F56403F7E3E. Seeds will be sent as available.

Containers such as used egg cartons, Dixie cups, plastic food containers or water bottles can be used to start seeds. Available seeds, such as lettuce, basil and other vegetables will be available as supplies last. Potting soil, top soil or any dirt will work for starting seeds. The Neighbors’ Place and Community Garden will gladly take your plants this summer for their gardens.
