The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a winter storm watch in advance of a storm expected to dump more than 6 inches of snow in the region beginning Sunday afternoon.
A low pressure system will develop near the Texas and Oklahoma panhandle region Saturday night, then track to the mid- Mississippi Valley by Sunday evening.
The storm will strengthen rapidly and turn northeast, reaching northern Lower Michigan by mid-day Monday, generating strong winds across the area up to 45 mph.
Colder air being pulled into the area late Sunday and Sunday night will cause the rain to change to snow across north-central and portions of central and far northeast Wisconsin, with a significant snow accumulation possible.
Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
The combination of heavy snow and strong winds could result in damage to trees, which may break and take down power lines leading to power outages. Outdoor tents may also suffer damage due to the wind, and are at risk of collapse due to the weight of the snow.
