Marathon County health officials are reminding residents that rummage sales or any other out-of-home sales are prohibited under Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer at Home order.

Such sales are not considered essential services even if people remain six feet apart from one another, said Judy Burrows, Marathon County public health information officer.

“There is no reasonable way to host a sale out of your home while maintaining the social distancing needed to protect people from the spread of COVID,” Burrows said.

Because most people visit several rummages sales on a single day, the potential for spread is extremely problematic, she said.

Sales via an online platform where items are mailed are allowed, but in-person sales are not.

“Hold onto your treasures a little longer and help keep our communities safe,” Burrows said.
