No one was injured after a fire broke out early Friday at Domtar paper mill in Rothschild.

Emergency crews from Riverside Fire District and Kronenwetter Fire battled the blaze at the mill, at 200 Grand Ave., that appeared to start in the debarking unit of the mill’s wood room.

Domtar Manager Craig Timm, in an email to Wausau Pilot and Review, said employees detected a smoldering fire at about 3 a.m. in a piece of equipment at the mill’s wood room. Employees contacted fire officials, who responded and extinguished the fire.

There are no injuries or apparent damage to equipment, Timm said. Crews at Domtar are continuing to monitor the area throughout the day on Friday.

“Domtar appreciates the fast action by its employees to detect the situation, notification to the local fire departments and the assistance of fire personnel  from the area,” Timm said.
