The Wausau Police Dept. this week launched a new public information portal with direct access to police activity including crime maps and a searchable database.

The portal uses data generated by the department’s records management system. Going forward, the portal replaces the daily report log posted on the WPD website and shared with media outlets.

Residents can access information at any time, with enhanced features that include searching for inmates, including mugshots. Residents can also report non-emergency incidents to the department through the new portal.

Wausau Police Lt. Nathan Cihlar, in an email to media, said the portal is not a live activity tracker. Anyone seeking a copy of an associated report must still complete a public records request, as they have in the past.

“We hope you likewise find value in this new information sharing tool,” Cihlar said.
