Aspirus on Tuesday announced expanded COVID-19 testing capability to include any screened patients who are displaying symptoms.
Previously, only patients meeting specific criteria were tested.
Aspirus System Laboratory Director Deakin Washatko called the shift a step forward in making the community safer.
“Expanded testing will let symptomatic patients know if they are infected with COVID-19 as well as help Aspirus open up more procedures,” Washatko said, adding that testing could allow some businesses to ensure employees are returning to a safe environment.
According to an Aspirus news release, the limited number of tests in the area played a role in postponing procedures at local facilities. Aspirus Senior System Physician Executive Dr. Ryan Andrews said the increase in testing will pave the way for allowing more procedures.
