Police have identified a 16-year-old boy killed early Wednesday in a Lincoln County crash as Tyler S. Krenz, of Merrill.

The driver of the vehicle, also a 16-year-old Merrill boy, is in custody as investigators await test results to determine if speed and alcohol are factors in the crash. The driver was also injured and was treated at a local hospital before being taken into custody. His name has not yet been released.

Police say Krenz was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A third 16-year-old boy from Merrill, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to the trauma center at Aspirus Wausau Hospital by ambulance. Fire Chief Josh Klug said no helicopters were available at the time of the crash. The boy remains hospitalized as of Thursday.  His name and condition have not been released.

Police received a 911 call at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday reporting a vehicle overturned and was off the road on Shady Lane Avenue in the town of Pine River.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash. Officers are working with the Lincoln County District Attorney to determine potential charges against the driver.
