State officials say seven dogs have been poisoned over the past year across several northern Wisconsin counties. Now, they’re asking for the public’s help identifying the culprit.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife service is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for poisoning the animals.
Four of the seven dogs died in the past month in Forest County, officials said. An additional three dogs were poisoned in Florence, Forest and Marinette counties.
Among the victims in Forest County: a 4-year-old yellow Laborador retriever and a 3-year-old German Shepherd. Tests on those two animals confirmed they were poisoned. Tests on the remaining two animals are pending, but officials believe they, too, died the same way. Those dogs died last weekend.
Some dogs that died were being walked on a leash when they came into contact with the deadly poison, suggesting it is being left near the road.
Coyotes and other wild animals are also being poisoned, officials said.
