Mild temperatures, gusty winds and low relative humidity means fire weather conditions are at near-critical levels this weekend with the worst conditions expected over central Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, weather officials said.

With state parks reopening and many people outdoors enjoying pleasant weather, there will be an increased risk of fire starts over the weekend. Given the expected windy and dry conditions, any fires could quickly spread out of control.

About three dozen wildfires were reported across Wisconsin in the past week including one near Hwy. 64 north of Wausau, according to the Wis. Dept. of Natural Resources.

The DNR has suspended all burning permits until further notice and all debris burning is prohibited.

Campers and other outdoor enthusiasts are discouraged from starting campfires.
