Officials say several people were injured in a 26-vehicle crash Sunday in the southbound lanes of I-39 near Plainfield, along with four separate crashes in northbound lanes.

Police say a dust storm was to blame for the crashes, as heavy wind gusts swept through the area resulting in low visibility.

None of the injuries reported appear life-threatening, officials said.

The crash happened early Sunday afternoon between County Hwy. D and Hwy. 73. The roadway was blocked and traffic was detoured for more than two hours following the crashes.

Traffic has since been restored to normal.
