Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

I chose to attend UW-Stevens Point at Wausau because it allowed me to easily transition into college while still staying home and saving money.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

I was surprised how helpful everyone is! I was expecting to be all on my own, but it was just the opposite. I receive a lot of support from staff and faculty.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Wausau faculty/staff help?

One of my high school teachers, Kerry Scholz, helped me discover my purpose. I was having a hard time in her chemistry class, and she was always willing to help me out. She taught me that hard work pays off. Because of her, I have a love for science and a desire to make an impact in someone’s life like she has made in mine. The faculty and staff at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau have helped, too, guiding me on my journey to what I hope will be a career in optometry.

Why did you choose your program/major?

When I arrived at the Wausau campus, I knew I was interested in science, but I had no idea where to go from there. After speaking with Academic and Career Adviser Tiff Akins from the Stevens Point campus and help from my very patient Wausau counselor, Miranda Gentry-Siegel, I chose clinical laboratory science for my major.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

My favorite teacher is biology Professor Paul Whitaker. He is dedicated to helping his students succeed. He keeps material challenging but fun and is always willing to take time out of his day to help his students reach their goals.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, dancing and spending time outside. I also have a lot of fun working part time at Kwik Trip with all my amazing coworkers.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

After earning my associate degree, I plan to transfer to the main campus in Stevens Point where I will complete my bachelor’s degree. My educational goal is to earn a degree in optometry.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice would you have for incoming students?

Do not be afraid to ask for help. Professors, staff members and fellow students are always willing to help.
