Standalone and strip-mall based retail stores can offer in-person shopping for up to five customers at a time under a new order issued Monday by Gov. Tony Evers.

The governor calls the order “another turn of the dial on Safer at Home.”

Retail stores will be required to maintain social distancing practices, under the new rules. Drive-in theaters can also operate, with restrictions.

“Both customers and workers need to be confident in their safety, so we need everyone to be diligent in following best safety practices so we can continue to move our state forward while keeping our neighbors, families, and communities safe and healthy,” Evers said.

Stores relying on mall or other interconnected entrances may not yet open under the new order, which goes into effect immediately.

Masks are strongly encouraged, Evers said.
