Local municipalities in the Wausau area are so far not shutting down businesses or issuing their own stay-at-home orders, though some are continuing to limit access to municipal facilities and playgrounds.
In Weston, all park playgrounds, fitness trails, restrooms and the skate park remain closed. The municipal center, 5500 Schofield Ave., is also closed for now.
All other Weston park spaces including the disc golf park and Weston dog park are open.
Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg said City Hall will remain closed to the public as well, but no additional restrictions have been implemented in the city.
Marathon County also issued recommendations but stopped short of any closures, which some counties and municipalities have chosen to implement.
In the Marathon County order, the health officer recommends practicing social distancing, using masks when social distancing isn’t practical, staying home when ill and practicing sanitary procedures already recommended by the CDC.
Marathon County is urging businesses that have chosen to open to follow the guidelines from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, CDC, and State Department of Health Services. They should also consult with their local Chamber of Commerce and Marathon County Health Department for guidance as necessary.
County officials haven’t banned mass gatherings but recommend avoiding them if social distancing isn’t possible.
Businesses, non-profits and other entities should reduce capacity and modify their spaces so physical distancing can be practiced.
Some municipalities, including Dane County and Appleton, for example, have enacted their own stay-at-home orders following the Supreme Court decision that allowed the immediate opening of businesses previously deemed non-essential under the governor’s order.
