The annual Wausau Area 4th of July Celebration, set for July 1 through July 5, is canceled for 2020, event representatives announced Thursday.
The decision, confirmed Thursday, was made after event organizers consulted with vendors, participants and the Marathon County Health Department.
The annual event features rides, entertainment and fireworks, and has been a Wausau staple for decades.
As of early April, the organization was still planning to hold the event, but promised to make a final decision no later than Memorial Day weekend.
