WAUSAU – North Central Health Care will open a new eight-bed Youth Behavioral Health Hospital and a Youth Crisis Stabilization Center in the fall of 2020 on its Wausau campus, NCHC announced this week.

The hospital, which will be the only county-run youth behavioral hospital in the state, will provide stabilization to youth experiencing a mental health crisis and provide an opportunity to recover in a calming environment, NCHC said. A network of onsite licensed clinicians and psychiatrists will provide 24/7 care to address each person’s unique challenges and provide resources for a return home.

More information can be found at www.norcen.org/YouthHospital.

The crisis center will be available for youths who would benefit from crisis stabilization but do not need hospitalization, however, they may be eligible to stay at the eight-bed home. Youth Crisis Stabilization staff will work in collaboration with each child’s support system to develop a plan for his or her stay and for his or her return home.
