Strong storms with torrential rainfall, hail and gusty winds are expected to push through Marathon County Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Southwestern Marathon County could see a thunderstorm as early as 11 a.m. with half-inch hail and winds in excess of 30 mph. Additional scattered thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and early evening hours and will impact the Wausau area, forecasters say.

Some storms could be severe with up to one-inch hail and damaging winds. The greatest risk for severe storms is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Brief, heavy rainfall is also likely.

There will be a continued chance for thunderstorms periodically through Wednesday night. A few storms across central Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night could once again produce hail, strong winds and locally heavy rainfall.

Boaters should be especially mindful of rapidly changing weather conditions.
