The city of Wausau clerk and customer service office will partially reopen next week, according to a city news release issued Thursday.
Beginning Tuesday, June 2, the office will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with some changes.
City officials say sneeze guards have been installed in the clerk’s and customer service office, while hand sanitizer is available at the entrances. Some doors will be propped open to limit the need to touch surfaces.
“It is essential that all City Hall visitors continue to follow CDC and Marathon County Health Department guidance while inside City Hall,” the release states.
The only people allowed near the service desks are those being helped. Everyone else must queue up at least six feet away from each other. Masks are encouraged but not required.
Other city departments, including Metro Ride and the Department of Public Works, are not yet open to the public.
To contact specific employees, residents can set up meetings by calling the appropriate department. Phone and WebEx meetings are strongly preferred unless circumstances don’t permit those options.
The Wausau City Council amended their rules this month to allow council members’ to continue attending meetings remotely. That change expires in July but it may be extended.
City Hall continues to be open during meetings, though visitors are required to practice social distancing. The public is encouraged to call in to listen to meetings or participate through public comment via the call-in number listed on city agendas.
Wausau’s Municipal Court will also resume with limited operations next week with additional guidelines prescribed by court officials.
City Hall’s hours will be regularly re-evaluated over the next few months based on data and guidance from public health officials, specifically the Marathon County Health Department, the release stated..
