A 51-year-old Merrill man is jailed following a high speed chase Saturday, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say a deputy initially attempted to stop the man on Hwy. JJ in the town of Rock Falls for a speeding violation.

That’s when the man allegedly fled, leading the deputy on a high speed pursuit through several townships, reaching speeds greater than 1oo mph.

The pursuit ended in Merrill after the driver became stuck in the gravel pit at the end of Pine Ridge Avenue, police said.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, faces charges of felony fleeing and endangering safety. He also faces multiple traffic citations and was wanted in four neighboring counties on separate cases involving failing to pay child support.

Police say the man is a convicted felon who has previous charges involving fleeing an officer.

He is due in court on Monday and is being held in the Lincoln County Jail.
