A Panama City, Fla. man is accused of repeatedly stabbing a Tomahawk man in a weekend altercation in Nokomis Park, according to an Oneida County Sheriff’s Department news release.
Police received a 911 call at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday, June 21 from a man stating he was not from the area, his girlfriend was intoxicated and he wanted to go home. The call disconnected, but police called back and talked to the man, 34-year-old Robert H. Williams, who said “there were about 10 guys coming to fight him.”
Another call came from the same area from a man who said his friend was stabbed twice in the side with a three-inch blade.
Arriving deputies found 28-year-old Andrew W. Wickland, of Tomahawk, stabbed multiple times. Wickland was transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk for treatment of his injuries.
Williams was medically cleared at Ascension Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander before being taken to the Oneida County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of recklessly endangering safety, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property, according to an Oneida County Sheriff’s Department news release.
Official charges will likely be filed Tuesday.
