WESTON – Everest Metropolitan Police Department’s K9 Aron will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provides bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate.
Everest Metro PD supports one K-9 Handler/Officer and K-9: Officer Matthew Hable – a 15-year police veteran and K-9 Aron – a 9-year-old German Shepherd. Aron has been working with EMPD since 2013 and is a dual-purpose working dog which means he performs daily patrol functions and narcotics detection, including locating discarded items, or evidence, open door and alarm calls, building searches, area searches, and tracking for fleeing and/or hidden felonious suspects, lost and missing persons, high risk traffic stops and many community presentations and appearances.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $960 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1,744-$2,283 and weighs an average of 4 pounds to 5 pounds.
