A 15-year-old girl is dead after being thrown from a jet ski Friday in Lake DuBay, officials and witnesses told Wausau Pilot & Review.

A former Wausau Community Resource Officer said he was swimming in the lake at about 8:30 p.m. Friday near where water ski shows are routinely held when he heard screams. That’s when he saw bystanders dragging the girl from the lake.

The former CRO, Benjamin Obremski, swam to shore and administered CPR until emergency crews arrived a short time later. Crews from Portage County were paged at 8:38 p.m. to a beach area at 4480 Park Road in the town of Dewey.

The girl, who was not breathing when crews arrived, did not survive.

Portage County authorities say the driver was a 33-year-old man from Schofield.

Point Plover MetroWire reports the girl’s death is under investigation.

The victim’s name has not been released.
