One person was airlifted Monday from the scene of a motorcycle crash north of Wausau.

The driver was traveling at highway speed when he struck a deer and crashed, according to preliminary information. He was found by a family on the side of the road about 30 minutes after the crash.

The crash was reported at about 2 p.m. in the town of Hamburg.

Rescue crews established a landing zone near the crash site to airlift the driver to a hospital for treatment. Witnesses say he was not wearing a helmet.

The severity of the driver’s injuries is not yet clear. His name and age have not been released.
