The 15-year-old girl who died Friday after being thrown from a jet ski on Lake du Bay has been publicly identified as Travina Chandler, of Wausau.

Crews from Portage County were paged at 8:38 p.m. July 3 to a beach area at 4480 Park Road in the town of Dewey near where water ski shows are routinely held.

The girl, who was not breathing when crews arrived, did not survive. A bystander administered CPR while waiting for emergency crews, who used a bolt cutter to access the area.

Portage County authorities say the driver was a 33-year-old man from Schofield. His name has not been released.

Police say Chandler was thrown from the jet ski before being pulled ashore. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation and police have not said how Chandler died.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Department says a death investigation is continuing, with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Portage County Medical Examiner.
