WAUSAU – The turbulent global events occurring in the first half of 2020 has forced almost every individual and organization to adapt, and Wisconsin’s oldest triathlon is no exception. Ironbull and the Woodson YMCA have teamed up to create an on-your-own style duathlon and triathlon series, called the Ironbull Woodson YMCA Duathlon and Triathlon Challenge.

Participants can participate in one of three unique courses – a mini-challenge, short course, and long course – or all three. The mini-challenge is designed specifically to introduce new participants to the sport, whereas the long course is designed to challenge even seasoned triathletes.

The mini-challenge kicks off on July 17, followed by the short and long courses, respectively. Each course is offered over 10 days to participants. Racers will receive course information after registration. All courses start near downtown Wausau.

“Although this summer has been a challenge, we see an opportunity to show racers even more great water, roads and parks.” said Andrea Larson, executive director of Ironbull and course designer.

For those without a boat to complete the paddle section, they may forego the paddle and make it a duathlon, team up as part of a relay or complete a pool swim instead.

Participants are encouraged to abide by current COVID-19 guidelines.
